resetting iphone 5 A1387

ok, here goes! We had a foster boy that we bought this phone for. When he was reunited with his parents, we took it back since they gave him his own (other brand). His Apple id is on it and I can't wipe it without logging out of the cloud and find my iphone. He can't remember his password. The ios is 9.2.1. I don't care about any data on it, but I want to make this MY iphone since I hate my 6s so much. itunes version 12.5.2.35. on my mbp (5,3) running 10.9.5. Can anyone offer a solution since the youtube one didn't work. Can verizon do it?

Do you have a purchase receipt for the phone? If you do, take it to an Apple Store with the receipt proving the phone is yours and they will remove it from "Find my iPhone" and also clear the Apple ID. That's the only way you're going to be able to do it.

Hi chscag, This phone was bought through a verizon store. Can the verizon store do it? I will see if the wife can find the receipt.

No, the Verizon store can not reset the phone by removing it from find my iPhone. Only Apple can clear that and the old Apple ID. If Verizon is like any other carrier, they should have a record of your purchase and very likely can furnish you with a copy. Good luck and let us know how it all turns out.

You already knew this, but to follow up, I got him to remember the answers to the security questions, thus allowing unlocking. This is actually an iphone 4S.
