Need for new sub-forum on Scripts?

Good morning to you all.

The last month or so has seen, to me at least, a great increase in requests for assistance in writing Apple Scripts, Automator "scripts" and even Terminal-based stuff like Bash Scripts.

You will gather from that last sentence that most of this is a complete mystery to me; but clearly not to some of our members. And some very clever and sophisticated answers & advice have been given.

It is for the Admins and Mods to decide these things, of course, but I wonder if this area needs its own dedicated Forum (or sub-forum, not sure of the correct terminology)?

Just my observations & thoughts.

EDIT: I am aware there is a digital and web hosting sub-forum that includes scripts; but I'm talking about much broader issues relating to day-to-day running on the Mac.

+1 I think that is a wonderful idea! I would use it.

I think the "OS X - Development and Darwin" forum is a great place for these questions as it is frequented by developers who generally dwell on scripts to make their lives easier. Can't tell you how many Bash scripts I've written to automate mundane tasks during my development..

We need to be careful how many sub-forums we create…otherwise we get bogged down with the complexity of sub-forums. Generally the simpler the better. We do get the occasional feedback that Mac-Forums is too complex.

I took a look in the "OS X - Development and Darwin" area (as well as other areas) for "script" related threads…and found about 5-7 threads in the past three months. If we include "bash" threads…that number goes up to about 10 threads. In three months…that's approximately 1 thread/week.

I believe that in the past 30 days…there were about 2 script threads & 2 bash threads (again, about 1 thread/week).

Traditionally these topics have not been the most common. How about we keep an eye on things…and if there's an upsurge in this topic area. Keeping in mind the breadth of topics our Desktop & Notebook sub-forum areas handle.

I agree with Nick and Ashwin. We already have a logical place for scripts as they both pointed out.
