I was trying to move a particular folder from Finder window (left side, listed under Favorites) to my Desktop. I clicked on the folder and slid it to my Desktop...it evaporated. Where do I find it, please?

Have a look in Finder/Go/Recent Folders and see if it's listed there. It looks as though anything you click on is logged there.

Those are not real folders. They point to the real folder. Apple would call it an alias, of sorts. The Windows world calls it a shortcut. You can get it back into the list by dragging the real folder from the window pane on the right to the Sidebar on the left.

KevinJS...your answer brings up another question: when I use the command-shift-G when in Finder, the Go to folder opens. I type in "Recent Folders", as you suggested, and it doesn't find anything. What is the entire "string" that Finder is using (i.e., /system/library/core services, etc.) for the Recent Folder search?
