I am often unable to use safari on my iPad mini as the website i want to look at is diverted to a number of other websites and usually ends with some dodgy offer of a prize or similar, although sometimes it's a really dodgy website.
I have had the same problem on the Mac although have been able to manage it with Ghostery and Adblock Plus and by closing the hijacked page which gets me back to where I want to be.
I don't appear to have the same option with the iPad mini.
I couldn't even get to the Mac Forum using my Mini and had to go the Mac.
Do you have any suggestions?

Give the directions here a try and see if that clears things up. The author uses the term virus a few times in this article but it is actually a browser hijack.

Hi Slydude, thanks for that. I haven't tried that yet but if I experience the same problem when on cellular it will be handy to use. Since I posted the original message, I have had a further read on the Malwarebytes pages and discovered that my situation indicated that it was a DNS problem on the the modem/router. I couldn't update the firmware on the modem i was using as it was an old one but I did have a new modem in the cupboard. I have now installed it and updated it to the latest firmware as suggested by Malwarebytes and the problem has gone. Hopefully it will stay away.
I had suspected that it was a modem issue as the iPad didn't seem to have the same problem when i was using it on the cellular network. many thanks for your help.
Thanks also to Randy for the advice.

You're welcome. The prospect of redirects being done at the router level did not occur to me until I read a different article.
