There are so many units out there that i can choose from. Not looking for junk but only a reliable unit. Is there a unit that you can suggest that i would be best to purchase. some data on my machine

Thank You

I use a Lexar Professional card reader. It reads all sort of cards including SD and CF ones. Not cheap but I've had no problems with it.

I've also got a thumb drive style one marked "Eye One" which has been reliable.

that's the one I use so I see no reason why it shouldn't work just fine

you won't get the full speed benefit of it being a USB3.0 reader though
