Can I run Photos on 10.8.5?
If no, what similar soulutions I have?
I'd like to use the cloud sync function most importantly.

Not on 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion) you can't. Photos was introduced with Yosemite, which was 10.10. (+various updates) and continues with El Capitan 10.11.(5 now). iPhoto is the photo managaement app on Mountain Lion and this OS which has some compatibility with iCloud. Sue has given excellent advice.

I might only add that iCloud Photo Sharing only became available with Mavericks (10.9.x) whilst iCloud Photo Library was introduced with Yosemite (10.10.x).

So, as Sue said, you cannot run Photos on your present setup, but equally iCloud Sync won't work for you either.

Which means using other Cloud-based services that may, or may not suit your purposes (and pocket): Dropbox; Google Drive. There may be others. (NB iCloud Drive did not come in till Yosemite)

Is there a reason you do not want to update/upgrade your system? If you give us information of your mac, we may be able to help you get your system to run the newest OS version.

Thank you for the great advices!
I can't upgrade my system, because I use Pro Tools 10 HD, and it is compatible only with 10.8.5.
Maybe a solution would be a dual system on my 2009 Mac Pro.
Is it possible to use multiple os on my mac and switch between them at startup?
Thanks!
Tom

It is possible to have two different operating systems on your hard drive. You would need to partition the drive and have one operating system on one partition and one operating system on the other partition. If you're going to do that, and it can be done from within Disk Utility, be sure to backup your data before you create the new partition. There are directions for this all around the Internet. Here's one set.
