I just switched the screen brightness of my iMac, from all the way up to all the way down (using F14 and F15), and what a difference! All the way down is much easier on the eyes... especially since it's dark out right now...

Now, will turning down the brightness have any effect on the computer, like will the display last longer?

As far as I know there is no significant gain of lifespan by adjusting the brightness.

interesting...

but yeah i guess if you're tired you can change your screen brightness a lot easier than holding down that **** monitor button.

On a PowerBook/iBook/MBP, though, decreasing the brightness will give you an significant boost in battery life, though. As well as being less distracting to others if you're on a nighttime flight, or in a darkened auditorium.
