Hi,
I have been using Mac OSX10.7.5
Recently downloaded elcaptain from AppStore
As I tried installing it it says partition u r trying to install it on is not in GUID
On going to disc utility I find that the partition on my Mac part has been set to master boot type & when I talk to support people they say backing up & formatting is the only way out.
I would never format coz I have many 3 rd party softwares which I use for designing & don have their serial keys now .
Is there a way out
Either some way to back up the applications( fool proof ) or changing the format without formatting

I wonder if the OP is selecting the correct volume and I didn't think it was even possible to have OS X booted from any "Master" format.

Have a read here:

Master Boot Type is not correct MUST be Guid.

That is for Windows drives. If you are not prepared to format can't help much alas.

If they were attempting to install and replace their Mac OS 10.7.5 with the El Cap'n OS 10.11.x install, I would have thought it would already be using GUID format.

If all your important software is on that partition that is MBR, transfer to another partition using cloning software, then simply erase this partition, into Partition, into Option and select GUID, and copy back.

Hello!

Actually I'm not replying to this post but as a new comer into the forum, I just want to say hello to you old folks.

Thanks

Actually there's an actual forum page to do just this and introduce yourself.

And thanks for the reminder to turn off or tape over my old folks iMac's camera. ;)

PS: What gives with your VW signature thing…???

@ferrarr and pm-r:

He's a spammer and has been banned from the forums. Patrick was correct about his signature line. Clearly advertising.
