• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Hi
I have a question regarding backing up/downloading videos via iMovie from my camera. I use a newest version of OSX and with this version of iMovie I can't find a way to download movies directly to my outside hard drive like I used to. It takes a lot space on my computer, but I can not select the drive to unload it there from iMovie. I dowloaded it to a folder in iMovie, but even it is there I can't find it to grab it and move it somewhere else. Any ideas how to either directly download it to the outside hardrive, or move it from my computer?

Thanx for any help

Your downloaded movies are stored inside the iMovie Library file, which you can find in your Movies Folder in your Home Folder. Drag the iMovie Library file to your external drive. To avoid confusion later, rename that file External iMovie Library(or similar).

Open iMovie. Go File Menu>Open Library>External iMovie Library. If you then select the original iMovie Library in iMovie's Sidebar(hence the rename), you can then go File Menu>Close Menu, you can then close the Library on your Mac if you wish. Once again, when you're happy that the Library on the external drive is working fine, you can delete the original on the Mac if you wish.
