At least it looks like I really have been accepted. i have been trying to register for three weeks and have changed passwords so often that I'm not sure what my password is. I am really writing this as a test to see if I really do get to post. My reply to the welcoming private message has already been rejected but no explanation of why. Just says there is an error.

Question: Do all new users go through this much agony? :)

Welcome to the forum, Hazel! I don't think so, but the board has been flaky recently, so perhaps you got caught up the in the flakes?

Hi Hazel,

Yes the site has been flaky. I got a whole host of emails for post updates that happened last month just yesterday. The site recently changed ownership and got a facelift but we still are having growing pains. Thankfully we seem to be past the DOS attacks - (knocking on wood now!)

Welcome Hazel.

The difficulties which you experienced are annoying, but rare.

This is a friendly forum and all we ask is that you supply the maximum of information about your Apple product when you post a question.

Thank you both and I'll do my best. I confess to being totally electronically-challenged. Often, even the explanations are Greek. :)

Ian, I see what you mean. I give no specs at all. I don't remember seeing a place to do that. Can I fix it? If so, please tell me how and which specs you want. Thanks.

Hazel, on the top of the screen you should see "My Profile." Click there and you will be taken to your own profile area. Once there, click on "About Me" and you can see what others can see about you. Now click on "Settings" at the top of the screen again and you will be taken to a screen where you can edit that profile. I tend to be sparse about me personally, but I do share my system data in the "Your Mac Specs" section. That helps when I have a question because my specs are published under my avatar (the little picture of airplanes in my case) so everyone can see my system specs.

All right. I've copied that and will get to it asap. Need a break now. Thanks again. I like how clear you make it.

It's a good place to search for, or ask, specific questions, but I also find loads of useful information reading other people's queries and problems.

Welcome to this forum Hazel, believe me it can become quite addictive and rewarding as well. It is a great opportunity to learn and help others and I think a really nice community too.
