Apple has update its free consumer-oriented digital video editing software iMovie to version 3.0.2.

iMovie 3 is the latest version of the video editing software, which was released in late January. iMovie 3 is one component of iLife, a suite of products that include iPhoto 2, iTunes 3 and iDVD 3. All of the iLife components except for iDVD 3 are available for free download from Apple's Web site.

The update provides improved performance and stability, according to Apple.

System requirements for iMovie 3.0.2 call for a G3/700MHz or faster; 256MB RAM; Mac OS X 10.1.5 or later; QuickTime 6.1 or later; and 1024 x 768 screen resolution or higher.

The 4.4MB update is available for download through the Software Update system preferences pane. An update link is also available on the iMovie home page.
