Hi all, more trouble. It's quite possible that I'm looking for something that's not there, but I can't find Gatekeeper in my app's or utilities. I'm on the 13" macbook air on 10.9.5.

As chscag mentioned. "Gatekeeper" is not an app that can be found. It's a setting within the Security & Privacy preference.

Thanks chscag and pigoo3. Don't know what I was thinking. I'd already been there but for some reason I got it into my head that I should find it in apps or utilities. Stoopid or what.

Hi Pete - I'm fairly new to Apple (early 2013) and many security developments have occurred over the last decade+ which seem to be kept 'under the hood' - if you interested in a nice timeline review, check out this DISCUSSION - quoted below, just a list of some of the items covered - Dave :)

Apple’s Protection
- File Quarantine
- XProtect
- FileVault
- App Sandbox
- Gatekeeper
- System Intergrity Protection

Hey Nick, I'm easily confuddled. ;D

RadDave, I've got a couple of months on you, bought an iMac in 2012 and never looked back, but still a long way to go. I'm surprised at how much I use the macbook compared to the desktop, I reckon it's making me lazy (ier).

I had a look through that discussion link, thanks. Learnt a bit out of that but still can't pluck up courage to get up to 10.11 from 10.9.5. I'm going to start yet another thread about it.

Hi again Pete - I started w/ an Apple II+ in 1980, the by the mid-80s switched to PCs for 30+ years (a work requirement) - then in retirement, went back to Apple - many of us here are now on El Capitan, and no reason for you to not upgrade - good luck. Dave :)

Thanks Dave. I'm under instructions on my other thread 'will I, won't I' on how to create a bootable backup. I've downloaded a trial version of carbon copy cloner and now need to find how to use it properly. Can't afford any mistakes.

Good luck w/ CCC - the cloning software that I use (just cloned my iMac & MBPro today x 2) - check Bombich Support and download their PDF documentation (nearly 300 pages but much is Q & As and troubleshooting) - Dave :)

Thanks Dave.

I'll have a read. Hope I can get through it before the trial runs out. ;)
