• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

We recently just upgraded to FCP5 for hd editing. I am having trouble capturing it. It was recorded on a Sony camera in HDV 1080i60. I am using a Sony HDV deck to load it into FCP5- it is connected with a fire wire cable. I used the Easy Setup to configure the capture settings for HDV 1080i60. However, there is no preview and I cannot capture anything although I can control the deck from FCP5. I do not get any error messages and cannot find any help from obvious chapters in the user manual. Our system has all the requirements to run FCP5, DVD PRO 4 and Motion 2.

specs:
Mac OS X 10.4.5
Processor 1.6 GHz PowerPC G5
Memory 2.5 GB DDR SDRAM

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Have you tried using the camera in VTR mode? It could be a problem with your deck, and not with the settings in FCP.
