recording programs for my mac mini

so i had heard that garage band is awesome but i have been using cool edit pro on my windows computers and it seems wayyy nicer. maybe garage band just isnt as easy to figure out, but i was just wondering what other options there are for me to test out, cos i dont think they have cool edit for macs. the thing that threw me off was i like to clean up live mp3s i download of other artists and the tempo keeps getting messed up.
