Hi,
I have run sophos scan on my macbook pro running El Capitan and it has come up with a threat called installcore but seems unable to remove it. It suggests I do this manually!
Could anyone help with doing this as I dont have any idea where to start

thanks in advance

Hi Davelat

The following links tell what Installcore is and how to remove it:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/InstallCore
http://www.2-spyware.com/remove-installcore.html

For general information and advice, the great majority of members of this Forum will tell you that you do NOT require antivirus software on your Mac. And many would advise you to uninstall Sophos ASAP.

Malware is your enemy, not viruses, in the Mac world. Browser extensions such as Ghostery and Adblock plus help prevent ads, malware and trackers and the free app Malwarebytes Anti-malware will scan your Mac and remove any malware which has accumulated.

If I were you, I'd ditch Sophos, download Malwarebytes, scan you Mac and let it get rid of Installcore. I'd get the browser extensions mentioned above. If you want to do things yourself, the second link, above, mentions one way.

Further questions, please ask.

Ian
