How to make that arrow symbol above the 'a' in 'paper maché?

I can do the symbol above the 'e', but not the symbol above the 'a' . 'option' + 'a' yields 'å' which is not what I want.

You mean like this: á

Hold down the "a" key until the symbols for accents appear above the letter and then select the number that corresponds to the accent symbol you want.
