I just purchased a new MacBook Pro but it's is not yet delivered. :'(

I have Office 2011 on my iMac (2009 version) and that system is Yosemite.

Will the dmg file I have for Office install properly on my MacBook which will have the newer El Capitan?

In advance, thanks.

MS Office 2011 is supposed to work fine with El Capitan.:) Assuming there are no serial number/product key install issues.

Office 2011 seems to be working fine for me under El Capitan. My MS Office needs are mini mal though and I have not tested all of the features. It also worked welll under the El Capitan beta.

Office 2011 was only sold on disk unless you purchased it direct from the Microsoft store or from an educational institute, in which case you should have the product code that MS included with the sale. Without the product code, you will be unable to activate Office 2011.

Best as I recall, I bought and downloaded it from Amazon. I certain I saved the registration, receipt etc as a pdf file. Here's hoping I right!

Thanks for the information - I use word & excel quite a bit and I'd hate to have to buy it again.

If you purchased it from the Amazon store as a download, the product ID was included with the dmg file or the registration. Even if you lost it, Amazon keeps a record of your purchases and should be able to provide you with it.

Got the new computer and went looking for the Office 2011 dmg file on my iMac. Found the receipt easily and noticed it was purchased from the Microsoft Store. Was able to download the dmg file at the store by inputting the product key and a few questions I had to answer. Installed very easily on the new machine. Thanks to everyone for the assistance!!

That's good news. Aren't you glad you kept the receipt? ;) By the way, I see you're from Long Island. I graduated from Valley Stream Central High many years ago and lived there until I moved.

And update to the latest version 14.5.7, particularly with El Capitan and if you use Outlook.

When I purchased mine direct from Microsoft, dragged the .dmg (or maybe zip?) file to a CD for safekeeping.

Don't really use Outlook, but the first thing I did was update the OS.
