.avi files on mac?

Would anyone know if this (.avi ) is possible to view on a G5 running 10.4.5 OS I have tried everything I have in my arsenal but nothing is working Is there anything out there that will help? Thanks in advance.

I thought Quicktime opened .AVI files ????

I used Quicktime to open them on my Powermac 6500.....

I have QuickTime Pro and it still doesnt work, I'll try that link from iWonder Thanks

when you install divx for mac, you can play avi files in quicktime

Divx only allows you to play divx avi's in quicktime. Avi is a container not a format. works like .mov files they have separate video and audio tracks that can be encoded independently. In short you only need Divx if your .avi contains a divx track. but it never hurts to have all the codecs. dont forget to get the Xvid codec too.

It sucks that they aren't gonna develop a PPC version from now on.

vlc plays every format and container i have
thats about 80gb of different video files so it should work

has anybody here used vlc to encode?

Yep. They even call the G5 outdated. I think its wack for them to abandon the platform before the transition is complete.
