Transform Adobe files into Word files

Do you know about an application --free preferably-- that would enable me to transform short Adobe files into Word files?
I have to do this kind of operation only occasionally so I prefer not to make an investment, generally very expensive.

I've only used such software on Windows at work.

The correct terminology here would be "PDF files" not "Adobe files." Adobe makes a huge range of software, and the only thing they make that could possibly be considered convertible into Word would be PDF files.

For the Mac, I don't think there's anything finer than PDFPen (except the Pro version of PDFPen), but this may be overkill for your needs.

I agree that correct terminology is important. In this case, it was easy to "translate" the intent.
