Hi guys,

I need you help; my 2008 Mac's running a 2011 Excel version, saying that I can't upgrade to 2016 Excel package cuz I am using an old 10.8.8 software version.
What could I do? I s there a 2015 version available? I need un upgrade in order to start learning and working on advanced functions with charts.
Cheers

What is "an old software version 10.8.8"? Do you mean you're running Snow Leopard 10.6.8?

Office for Mac 2016 requires using OS X 10.10 at a minimum and 10.11 is now out.

No one putting out new software is making sure their software works with a version of OS X that is now 5 versions behind.
It's time for you to upgrade OS X if you want to continue being able to use new 3rd party software.

For now, my advice is to stick with Office 2011 as Office 2016 is broken in El Capitan (it runs OK in Yosemite). Until Microsoft fixes it, it's pretty much unuseable with El Capitan (OS X 10.11). If you're currently running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 you can not upgrade to Yosemite as it is no longer available in the Mac App Store unless you purchased (downloaded) it before.

chscag, I got an update today for Office that claimed it fixed the problem. So far, for me, it's running well on ElCap. Excel version 15.14 (150911).

Thanks Jake. I've held off installing my copy because of the problems. Let us know if the new update seems to have fixed the glitches. I'm also interested in Word, Powerpoint, and Outlook as those were also broken.

chscag, all four seem to be working well after the update. No crashes so far. I do see a few entries in the console log about Word and Outlook but nothing fatal. I used Excel for a while, no problems and no console message for it at all. I think the fix is working.

OK, I'll likely give it a go this Saturday while I have the time. Another question: Did you uninstall Office 2011 or are you running 2016 alongside it? I checked the installation setup of both suites and they use different folders for the core files and kexts. As a matter of fact the uninstall instructions for 2011 when 2016 is also installed, only give two warnings about avoiding the removal of certain files and folders which MS names in the instructions. I'd like to keep 2011 around while I use 2016, at least until I'm convinced that 2016 is the way to go.

Never had 2011. Ran Office365, downloaded 2016 when it became available. Sorry.
