I open my Garage band to tinker with some music beds, I had to perform a software update, I could not due to I am using 10.6.8 Snow leopard. I don't want to upgrade due the fact I will not be able to run my CS3 and Adobe Effects 9 programs. If I upgrade I would have to download these programs for a yearly or monthly fee. If I was rich or working in an environment that it was constantly needed, maybe. I am very comfortable the programs I currently use. I did a little research and found out that I could download Maverick and my programs would continue to work and would be able to use garage band. Any thoughts please.

Unless you downloaded Mavericks when it was originally available...at the current time...Mavericks it not available for download from the Apple Store. If you need to upgrade your OS...you can choose between 10.7, 10.8, or 10.10 (depending on hardware & software compatabilities).

And just to add for the OP, both OS X 10.7 and 10.8 must be purchased from Apple, approx. $20.00usd while Yosemite and later are free.

As for software compatibility, you can check them out here:
