How to recover Accidentally deleted files

is there a free software that i can use to recover some files from a mac formatted external drive that was accidentally wiped? This is really urgent, if not a free software what is the best one to purchase?

Data Rescue seems to be a candidate to try and recover files. It is not free ... 99$ if I remember correctly.

Only way to recover lost data is by restoring a backup..... all the rest is best effort.

Data Rescue 4 recommended by member McBie is the best at recovering data. They do have a trial version you can download and test with before purchasing.

If you only want free software, those files must not have been very important. What would have offered you "free" recovery was a backup drive.
