You will need to help us help you by providing at least the minimum of info..... what OS, what application, are you having any problems . In short ... where is your question coming from ?

I don't think there is a way to do that anymore. It's handled by the system. It was possible until OS 9 but I don't think it has ever been possible in OS X.

As Sly says what you ask goes way back to Classic days, last century! More memory is the go but can't help further as you did not post model details. Hard to guess.
