Hi Lori.... - Jake has already given you an answer but a pic might help - I use a number of external HDs for Time Machine & CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner) backups, and also as an extra precaution, a smaller LaCie SSD to backup my personal files (music, pics, docs) - below is a screen capture w/ the LaCie plugged in and mounted (blue arrow) - simply click on your own external drive and then search for the files or folders desired - let us know if this helps. Dave
.
thankyou jake and radave
i tried that, as shown in your grab picture of desktop...but my external drive does not show.
i have a WD 320GB drive formatted nfts...i know Macs cannot write to this but can read.
it appears on my desktop as an icon but will not show on the left in finder.
grabbed a pic and attach, a color ball rotated for about a minute then stopped.
i would assume i would be able to see the file, can't see file, so don't know if it attached.
the file info says 131kb so it is not too large.
can you see it?
ah ha...i had to expand screen and it says upload so i did...then got message incorrect format...the file is in tiff...
is that the default for grab pic on desktop
ok will try this..i did a screenshot instead of grab
still can't get the darn thing to attach.
got to work on this a bit....
should be a simple process but this newbie having an issue
oh there it is....took a little longer to upload....
see my WD drive does not show under area where devices should show
i can open the icon on desktop of ext drive and view folders etc...but i wanted to do a search of all drive or in one folder...for a file i cannot remember exact name...there is no search option
ah ha...i had to expand screen and it says upload so i did...then got message incorrect format...the file is in tiff...

Hi again Lori.... - I don't use Grab that often, but just did a screen capture and indeed the file was saved as a TIFF which is not listed in the attachment options for this forum - you can bring a TIFF file into Preview and then open the 'File' menu w/ the option key held down which will present a 'Save As' choice - there you can change TIFF to a JPEG image.
Alternatively (as I do), use Preview to do your screen captures (CMD-SHIFT 3 or 4 will allow a complete or a selective capture which are saved as JPEGS on the desktop). So, will await your further posting. Dave
problem solved. i had another external WD drive formatted Exfat and that showed up just fine under devices.
so i guess even tho nfts can be read by Macs it will not be recognized as to other lineups.
can mark this discussion solved now.
thanks for all your help
