new to mac's so i'm confused about the app memory.

"about this mac" tell me i'm using 77.73GB of memory for apps, but "get info" in finder tells me I'm using 7.83GB?

Why are these different?

G'day and wlcome to the forums.

Nothing to do with memory the 77.73GB. That is telling you how much space on the hard drive is being taken up ~ 77.73 on the system and apps. The other is for the mnt of room Applications only are taking up.

And neither of them are "memory." Both are storage on your boot drive. I can't tell you why the Get Info on the Applications folder is so different from the System Report but my system also shows about 70GB difference, so what you are seeing is not abnormal. The About This Mac information is an aggregate across the ENTIRE drive, while the Get Info is about one particular folder.
