I finally got the laptop I have always wanted… a MacBook pro! it is a a1211 model which i found out can not run osx 10.10 but can run osx 10.7.5 which according to my friend at apple is still a very capable version. kinda wish it could run 10.10 but really do not need all the features 10.10 has since i do not yet have an iPhone or iPad yet. It is so much better than windows period. very happy i got it and it works awesome plus looks like new and the back lit keyboard is awesome as well! apple's really do rock!

Yes…this is a 9 year-old MacBook Pro. And yes…it cannot run Yosemite (OS 10.10). Newest OS it can run (as you mentioned)…is 10.7.5 (Lion).

All I can say is…if you needed a MacBook Pro that could run Yosemite…it would have been important to review which MacBook Pro models can do this before purchasing.

This is the hardest part for long time Windows Users, trying to get out of old habits, and always expecting a warning of one type or another. Big time to leave Windows, with W10 2 weeks from launch.
Anyways, congrats on the purchase, and welcome to the "darker side" ;)

Welcome to the Apple world! One thing to know is that terminology is somewhat different over here. One thing is that while a model number is ok to use, most of us refer to the machine the way "About this Mac" will describe it. Mine, for example is MBP Early 2011, or MBP8,3 (which you find in the System Report you can run from the Apple icon in the upper left corner on the top bar.

You'll find a lot of help here for when you wonder "How do I do that?" (And you will, we all have.)

ended up picking up a barely used 2010 mac mini last week as well for $50.00 at an estate sale since the person running the sale had no idea what the square box with an apple with a bite out of it was. thing works awesome and does run yosemite. probably going to get more ram for it soon since it only has 2 gb

pitbull...you will definitely need more RAM. I also have a 2010 mini and it can handle 16GB of RAM. I'm not saying you need that much, but I would suggest at least 8GB. Very easy to install! Check out OWC for the best RAM for your mini...just my $0.02 worth.

I am thinking about getting either 8 or 16 gb upgrade for the mini just because i can… I think my pro is running the most amount of ram it can at 3gb. i believe it is an early 2007 machine

You can check the ACTUAL amount of RAM for your Mac it can use here, for whatever model you have:
http://www.everymac.com

And somehow 3GB seems a bit low, but not sure what model you're referring to.

Ahhh!! A late 2006 a1211 model, and just missed the higher RAM use.

As I said, it just missed the higher RAM use!!!

If it had been a mid 2007 MBPro as the poster first thought it was, then it could have used Maximum RAM of 6 GB.

the person i bought my macbook pro told me it was a mid 2007, found out from the apple store it was either a very early 2007 or late 2006.

debating if i want to attempt to install yosemite thru macpostfactor on it or not and just leave it with lion on it since it really does everything i want it to do and does it well the way it is now.

I'm just curious why you'd be wasting time and energy debating using macpostfactor if when in fact you say "it really does everything I want it to do and does it well the way it is now."???

And especially considering all the negative comments about Yosemite, but it looks like they finally got it working better after at least the third revision.

But finally, would you really want to try a hack AND install an OS X version that every guru here will tell you that trying to use 3GB RAM with Yosemite is just NOT enough???

Anyway, your choice!! But hmmm…, maybe going to Mountain Lion might be an idea… ;) ;)

I should probably leave the computer alone since it works so well with lion…. but since i cannot get any further updates to safari, i may have to try to get ahold of a mountain lion or mavericks installer to attempt to get macpostfactor to allow it to be installed. or just use a different browser. I have used firefox on windows before and it was ok, never really liked google chrome since google seems to track every thing you do and constantly sending suggested crap to you… at least on android phones. or maybe safari 6.1.6 will still be usable for awhile yet. otherwise this pro works awesome
