I updated to iMovie 10.0.9 via app store on my iMac (yosemite). The update is listed as "installed", but the "About iMovie" in the application still shows 10.0.8 ? Do I have to re-install the free update? If so, how is this done?

Chas, I looked in Finder ... There is only one current...

version of IMovie, which has a "last-modified date" of today. There is also a folder of iMovie 9.0.4, but it shows last activity in April 2014. The current version's "Get info" says it is 10.0.8.

In your "Purchases" where it says iMovie 'Installed", click on iMovie and see if it doesn't take you to the "Update" page for iMovie 10.0.9, but you need to be running OS X 10.10.2 or later as it states there.

Maybe your Yosemite isn't right up to date…??? ;)

And BTW, sometimes lately it seems the "New and Improved" apps can be an oxymoron!! :D

I went to app store and clicked on "purchases" at the top bar (Is that the "Menu" bar?) Anyway, The top entry on the list is a Yosemite download from November !! It does not show any download of iMovie today.

You probably have version 10.0.9 even though it says 10.0.8. I just updated my copy also after receiving an update notice from the Mac App Store, and the "About iMovie" still says 10.0.8 even though it in fact downloaded and updated. I know it updated because the date on the iMovie application says "6-25-15". The older version was "3-20-15".

Interesting. I just got the same notice a bit ago and completed the update about an hour ago. My "About iMovie" says 10.0.9.

Hmm I wonder. My iMac also says 10.0.8 so I wonder if there is a different version for different computers?

Well, I just got another update notice for iMovie. This time the download took quite a while to complete and I'm on a fast connection. (75/75) Now the "About iMovie" says 10.0.9 but the date is the same. I think what may have happened is the previous download was interrupted and only appeared to have updated.

That makes sense. Mine took a reasonable amount of time too and I'm on a decent connection. 50 down
IIRC. Though I think my upload speed may be only 5 or 6.

Latest on iMovie 10.0.9 update

I went to the Apple store yesterday for the iMovie update that wasn't. The tech offered no explanation as to what happened, but the cure was to open the Finder, delete iMovie, go to the "Purchases" tab on the App store, and download iMovie. I now have the current version, but am without a clue as to what happened.

Thanks to all for the suggestions and help.

I should have thought of that iPhoto and Aperture have had similar issues lately. Thanks for posting back with that info.
