60th Eurovision Song Contest

In Vienna, Austria - Finals are today/tonight with 27 countries represented in the finals - 21:00 CEST (Central European) - 1 PM Eastern for those in the U.S. - Australia has an entry this year, 3 AM Brisbane time (I think)

Couple of my favorites: Serbia, Italy, Germany, UK, Cyprus.

Also, keep an eye on Belgium .... it could become the surprise of the evening. ( I am dead serious this time )

I guess Sweden and Russia will be competing for gold.

You know Tom after 76 years I have finally realized Australia must be in Europe. Silly man I must be!

Sweden were worthy winners. That staging was fantastic and the song was pretty good too.

The standard in Eurovision has increased significantly in the last couple of years.

Think my top 2 had a poor showing - only received a total of 5 points.
I thought bringing swing into the modern times was a great song from the UK. Germany got none.
The actual top 2, I understand the votes for Russia.
And while the effects were good, my musical taste does not extend to the song from Sweden belonging anywhere in the top 10.

Harry, someone there in Australia had been making requests for several years to be permitted into the contest.

Australians eh? They'll be wanting to play cricket next!!

It was kept a secret for some time, but the King of Belgium will make an announcement soon. ;P


I liked the performance of Australia, as did a large number of other countries..... that tune was very catchy.

Having not heard of Eurovision before, what really surprised me was practically all countries putting forth songs in English.

Welcome to cultural imperialism...

I'd have thought Sawday you Poms have your hands full playing the black caps.

Each country has a choice ... either perform in the official language or in English.
For Belgium that means either Flemish ( kind of Dutch ) , French, German or English.
