how to change disk space allotment

Is there a way increase disk space allotment of a folder on a Macbook with OS X Yosemite?

There is no such thing. Unless you've done some special partitioning of your hard drive, you have a SINGLE partition that takes up the entire size of your HD. The folders themselves don't get a size limit.

What, likely, you are running into is trying to create an extremely large file which is more of a filesystem limitation than a folder size one.

Perhaps explain more what you are running into and we can provide appropriate direction..
