I'm on a retail site. The home page has the lock icon in the address field. When I click on it, Safari tells me it's encrypted. All good so far. When I check out and get to the page that asks for credit card information, there is no lock icon.

Is this a safe site to shop on or not?

Thanks.

If the home page of the retail site is encrypted, that usually means the checkout process which requires payment information is likewise encrypted. Take a close look at the URL of the checkout page which asks for your CC info and see if it has "HTTPS" as part of its address. If it does, it's encrypted using secure sockets layer technology.

It doesn't seem to have HTTPS. This is it:

Sure it's "https". I just went to the site (via your link) and it was "https"…and if you look at the web address link in your post…it is also "https".

By the way…if you go to the website & click on the padlock icon…a browser popup will appear explaining that the "padlock" means that your information is kept private.

When I click on the link…I clearly see "https". Look very carefully. Look to the left of the padlock icon.

Could also be a "browser thing"..or a "browser version thing". You & I may be using different browsers or different versions of the same browser.

Nor for me either, Marrk, however the little padlock does appear as it loads so all is well.
