A friend sent me a 1TB hard drive with some of his band's videos and music on it that takes up about half the drive. I was trying to copy some other files to it buT found the permissions say Read only. And there is no lock to unlock in order to change it to read & write. I tried disk utility but the repair permissions buttons are greyed out. Any explanation or remedy?

Do a Get Info on the drive and change the user write permissions if you're allowed to do so.
