• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.

I'm running OS X 10.4.5, and just installed VLC 0.8.4a. When launched, it appears to almost start, and then abruptly just shuts down. Also, following the install of VLC, the OS X DVD Player reports "unsupported disc" when I insert a DVD, and requires that I repair permissions. This is the second time since getting my mini that I have tried to install VLC, and with the same results. Is there another app/method to play video_ts files directly from the HD in OS X? Thanks!

Answered my own question. Apparently DVD Player *does* play video_ts files from the HD, when you "Open Media" and choose the directory. I really thought that didn't work. Problem solved.
