• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

ffmpegx Help!

Well, I've converted .wmv files before on ffmpegx, and they went through fine. But when I try a different WMV that is over 19 min long and try to convert it to the same file as I did before with the other WMVs, the file keeps on failing to convert. Not only that, but I have the video settings to 22 min and the size 169 MB. When the WMV itself is only 22 MB at most. If it helps any, I can take pictures of what I've done to the settings.

But I've tried this with different settings and it just won't convert. Can anyone help me out? I want to convert it to the same size if not smaller as the WMV, but it just won't convert!

Can you play this wmv in windows media player or VLC?
If not, it might be encoded with the latest windows media codec that isn't supported on the mac.

I can play it in Windows Media Player, so it works perfectly fine when played. I just can't seem to convert it.

Sorry, I'd perhaps try running the file through DivX doctor II, but apart from that I'm out of ideas ...

A last ditch idea:

Upload it to google video and then download it from there in a different format.
(They'll convert it on their servers)
