help with keychain

I am new to Mac and I don't really get how to use keychain to keep track of passwords.
I would appreciate any help,

How to better manage passwords with Keychain Access | Macworld

You can also manage your passwords just as if you were still using paper from within Keychain Access by clicking on 'File' then choosing 'Create New Password' or 'Create New Secure Note'. This is particularly helpful if you are not using Safari as your browser or you have some reason to not allow Safari to store your passwords (perhaps other users have access to this machine and you are not setting up individual accounts for each user).

One thing I would advise - if you are going to use Keychain in lieu of paper - get in the habit of creating your logins in Keychain, then copy and paste from Keychain into the web page where you are signing up for a new account. Helps tremendously at preventing any errors, especially if you are using strong passwords.
