Is there a better suite than "Onyx" to keep my old PPC G4 running at optimal? Thks in advance...

Onyx is about all you need to keep your machine in good shape.
Unless you really have a hardware issue..... Onyx won't cure that

I have TechTool Pro, which might be more robust than Onyx, but Onyx is free. So depending on how you weigh that, Onyx might be the "best". I also have Onyx, but have never seen a need to use it. I have played with it, but it's not my utility of first resort. Actually, it pretty much just takes up space on my hard drive.

I should note that I run Snow Leopard, and probably will until I buy a new Mac.

Best programs are DiskWarrior and TechToolPro however on a G4 is it worth it when you consider the programs come in at $100.00, the cost of a brand new drive?

short answer: for a machine that old, there is nothing better than the correct version on OnyX for the operating system version you are running. As a PPC G4 is essentially worthless, there is zero point in spending any money on DW or TTP at this point.

Thanks to all who posted a response. This machine is all I need and I suspected that Onyx would be the consensus answer. Still good to know that there is a vanguard of PPC users still around.

Yeah, I suppose so in the sense that to defend a valuable component so suited to ones needs would be the Rearguard's charge. Although one might consider the folks at Floodgap and Onyx the Vanguard of development in keeping TenFourFox and my old PPC a viable alternative to an unneeded upgrade.
