Deleting old APPS and clearing all the crap

Hi.

I am wanting to make my machine run faster and more efficient. It's OK but I like to make sure every single byte is there when I need it.

Is there a good program that will scan any old or disused apps and suggest a delete or something. I'm sure you all know what I mean.

I heard macs don't need defragging is this true?

I have a few apps like SPYCAM and others that say 'in use' when I try to delete them from my TRASH folder?

What's my best way to totally get rid of all the ****?

(yes yes I know the smart answer - don't put the **** their in the first place)

Having apps installed doesn't cause slowdowns, having a lot of unnecessary apps running, however, does.

If you've got programs that don't easily uninstall by being dragged to the trash can, you might have to use any uninstaller they've provided to properly remove them.

You can also use AppCleaner to remove all remnants of an application..

Weeeelll, according to some experts, not quite all, at least not every time. But what it leaves behind will not hog resources.

Thanks I got the app cleaner... seems ok.... Maybe not as comprehensive as I would like.

Them 2 security cam apps will still not delete though.. see pic..

Those are just the DMG files, do you have them mounted? If so, eject them from in Finder and then you can delete it. If you can't seem to do that, restart the machine and it should no longer be in use and you can delete them..

The DMG file just holds the installer or files that you would've had to move to the Applications folder. If you used AppCleaner to remove the applications from there, then they've been removed from the system and you just need to get rid of the DMG files..
