My girlfriend has an older (2007?) MacBook. It seems that the screen light has burned out. We figured we could buy a cable and send the picture to her HDMI tv. Problem is, the cable at the store is for a mini to hdmi. What cable do I actually need to make this happen?

The older MacBooks came equipped with a Mini DVI video output port. You would need a Mini DVI adapter to whatever input type cable needed for her TV. If her TV supports DVI, then you would need a DVI cable, and a Mini DVI to DVI adapter.
