hard drive on old mac problem

old macbook 10.5.8 is saying the seagate backup lpus cannot be modified when i try to move i tunes library or anything onto it

How full the is the hard drive (gigs used & gigs free)? And other problems/symptoms with the computer?

Is it brand new and out of the box?

Have you reformatted it to Mac format in disk utility - it maybe formatted as Windows NTFS (which would make it read only on a Mac)

in disk utility it won't let me convert, the icon is not highlighted, its straight put of box, meant to be ok for macs ...oh dear
