• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.

Problem with Panasonic DVD camcorder

OK, so I bought a Panasonic DVD palmcorder, model DVR-M30, a year or two ago, back when I was completely a Windows user. I switched to mac, and now, I am being a little frustrated with the incompatibility of a lot of expensive hardwares with the Mac OS X (not blaming Mac, of course). I went to Panasonic website to see if they have software/driver to be used on Mac, but as far as my search goes, it seems that Panasonic website ignores that they even had such a product. Maybe I didn't search hard enough, but I couldn't find much information about that from their official website. Is there a way to connect my Panasonic DVD camcorder to my beloved Mac? Does anyone have this model? I'm pretty sure that, with so many people using and preferring the Mac for video editting, there's a way to import video files from the most unsupported, old devices, right? So it can't be impossible to somehow connect a DVD camcorder from two years ago, would it? I would really hate to believe that, just because I switched to a Mac, all my expensive gadgets are going to sit to collect dust and/or forcing me to hang on to Windows systems just to import movies to them, and then from there to my Mac... Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not that familiar with these DVD cameras. If your Mac can read the DVD then find a program to convert the video to a DV stream that iMovie can edit.

If your Mac can't read the DVD, perhaps hooking up the USB cable to the Mac will allow it to see the camera as a drive and allow you to drag the files from it.

If you can't find an answer by searching here, then try searching Apple's own discussion forums.
