My MacBook (White) is running Mavericks version 10.9.5

For over a year have been successfully using Skype for Mac v.6.19(452). An email arrived this morning announcing a new version of Skype for Mac and after looking around a bit I find it is version 7.0.653, so I thought I would upgrade to the newer version.

This newer .dmg from Skype goes into my ‘download’ file but appears “grayish/inactive” and has a circled X (active) in its upper left corner and will not open when double clicked.

This has happened to me once before when I tried to download and install a free solitaire game from the Apple Apps store…

Any suggestions on how I might go about solving my download problems regarding Skype & the Apps store?

Try downloading it again. You might have gotten a bad download that has errors which is why it won't open. The newer version of Skype should load and work with Mavericks.

I must have a compact fluorescent for a brain... takes a while to get 'bright'/up to speed.
This time I noticed the teeny, tiny progress bar under the downloads icon and under the dmg. thingy. So I waited and it finished downloading, the circled X vanished and installation went smoothly. I'm so embarrassed. :Blushing:
Thank you for your kind attention.

Not a problem Judy. Glad you figured it out. :)
