I finally got around to installing Mavericks on my mid-2012 MacBook Pro. It is connected via HDMI to an HP w2700h monitor. After Mavericks finished installing, the output to the monitor just flashed repeatedly. Opening System Preferences/Display showed the display was optimized for the monitor at 1680x1050 which is the recommended resolution for this monitor. However, the only settings that provided a normal view were 720p and 1080i. Between the two, 720p was the best, but the overall screen size is too large as the top bar cannot be seen and the dock is too low.
I tried using the monitor controls to resize the screen, but they would not let me select the image control command.
I do not remember having this problem when setting up display with my Mac the first time. I do recall it did not work on 1680x1050, but once I chose a different resolution, everything fit on the screen properly.
Any ideas how I can resize the screen image?
