So, I got this email today, really brightened my day:

ScreenShot2014-07-24at145510_zpse5e563d2.png~original

What the illiterate plonkers did not realise is: I have over 130 active email addresses (over 100 are just aliases, created for specific task/supplier/account, etc, etc) and I never used this particular one for anything Apple related, much less as an Apple ID.

This email is actually one of my main private addresses ([email protected]...), which, regrettably, I have to give out to people ... whose computers get compromised, hence the silly phishing stuff, thankfully not too often.

The part, that cheered me up, is actually at the very bottom: I counted eight mistakes in the copyright / address line. Good fun :D

What is sad is some people fall for it. I have had everything from the fake emails to the fake phone calls from Microsoft.

I came home one day to my husband telling me Microsoft called about a computer we owned contacting them with a problem. Fortunately my husband has no tech skills beyond internet searching so he told the guy I would have to call them back. They said they would call later and did not leave a callback number. Hum....imagine that. I have had three of this type of call and as soon as I tell them we have Apple computers, they hang up (can't say I have a Mac because their limited English does not translate that). They are slow learners ... they keep calling me, so now I mess with them.

Love it! My husband also gets in a panic over emails and phone calls. I keep getting calls about getting my diabetic supplies. They barely speak English and when I say I'm not diabetic they don't know what to say!

I get this sort of stuff everyday. I just deleted 3 of them 5 minutes ago…and I expect to get more later today.

Gosh folks.... I guess nobody loves me because I never seem to get those types of emails or phone calls. :[

Maybe Nick can send me a few to cheer me up? :p

The FBI ones are bad enough, but it's those from the IRS that cause me to go into a "kernel panic". O:)

Here's one I got earlier today. Not as elaborate as the one at the beginning of the thread…but still an attempt to gather personal info:

I never get any phone calls, but then the landline is registered as excluded from any marketing calls; our mobiles sometimes would get a text about insurance claim for our "recent car accident" (the last one I remember was about 26 yrs ago, these guys got incredible lead time ;) ), and very rarely do I get any spam these days - one or two a week is about the norm, plus about ⅔ gets killed at the mail server level, so Mail is left with a single junk email in a fortnight, give or take ... this phishing thing, therefore, caused some excitement :)

Excluded marketing phone calls Down Under on the so called "Do Not Call Me" program. Limits scam calls to about 20 a week from "Windows Technical Services" and "Your local computer experts".

Well, what do you know! Apparently there are some things, still functioning as intended in Great Britain then. I registered this landline about six years ago, after about nine months all calls dried out, and it has been quiet ever since. To be honest I don't really use landline anymore, but the only broadband option in this area is ADSL, so have to have a landline. Number of outgoing call last quarter, according to the phone bill - zero. Incoming, though not listed, are pretty much in the same ball park figure...

I get 'Microsoft Support' calls sometimes; if I can be bothered, I play them for 20 minutes or more before saying I have a Mac, at which point they get quite annoyed.

I think that you posted the thread in the best location.:) "Phishing" can certainly fall under the "Security Awareness umbrella". Good to go.:)

No wonder my last Apple order took so long to arrive. A zip code of 291084 puts Cupertino just south of Ningbo, China.

It's funny because your order likely did originate in China. ;)
