I just bought a used MacBook Pro. Everything migrated well. When I try to download an update from the App store, his user name comes up. I have checked to make sure that my user name is on the new Mac and it is. Does anyone know how to change from his ID to mine?

That is becuase no doubt the operating system, if it is OS X.7 or later, is in the original user's Apple ID. Create your own Apple ID, download whatever the operating system is which you have not shared with us, burn to a USB thumb drive, format and erase the hard drive and start again.
