iMac not accepting DVDs

Always possible that the DVD drive is dead. The slot-loading DVD drives in iMac's, MacBooks, MacBook Pro's, Mac-Mini's, etc. are not super durable.

Sounds like the optical drive has gone to heaven. First try and blow out with a can of compressed air. If you tell us how old your iMac is may be worth suggesting a cheap external.
