Okay, so I'm at school and my friend was being annoying so i wanted to get a bit of revenge. I'm sticking my pencil in the FireWire port and suddenly his computer shuts off and there are sparks and a tiny bit of smoke coming out. He starts his computer up and its working fine, but I'm worried what happened!

With freinds like this…who needs enemies!;)

The graphite in pencils can conduct electricity. So by poking a pencil into a computers port probably shorted out at least two of the wires. Very very lucky nothing was permanently damaged.

How about the Firewire port, did you check it out to see if it was still functional? If it's not, that means you'll owe your friend a new logic board.... :Mischievous:

Your friend should check the Firewire port! If it's dead like Chscag said, you own him a new board! In the future don't do that to anyones system.

And logic boards only cost about $700.00!
