I would like to connect my old Lexmark Z1300 printer to my Mac Laptop OXS 10.6.8 (Snowleopard) Lexmark says it's compatable with a Mac.

I haven't connected a printer to my laptop. Ever. And I don't have the disc that came with the printer.

I'm not sure where to start. When we connected my husband's printer to his Mac (same system, but a desktop) two or three years ago, the computer seemed to do it all by itself. We didn't have the disc for that printer, either, as nearly as I can recall.

So....if I connect the printer cable to the USB port, then go to Print & Fax and follow the prompts, will I be OK or must I try to find and download the driver(s) first. The lexmark website referred me back to Apple, so I'm really confused.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Try using the Print and Fax option first. There's a decent chance the Mac knows that printer and has an appropriate driver. If that does not work try this page. Choose Macintosh from the drop down menu then choose 10.6.8. It will lead you to a driver.

Thank you, Sly. I love my Mac, and if this works, I might love you, too.

Well LOL!, Sly - I've always thought about a ménage à trois (and I'm sure plenty of men have done the same or more over the centuries! :)) - but as you say, my wife would not understand either - Dave

If your wife reads this and suddenly find yourself in need of a place to stay let me know. I can probably find something close by. I might even be able to rustle up a bit of gator meat.

Well, my wife would just LAUGH too! :) But hey, the offer of some gator meat is quite tempting! Dave

I think that leads to the same page I linked to earlier.
