to go with my new camera I got myself a PNY USB 3.0 CF card reader

but it doesn't work

when i plug it in, it doesn't show up in Finder, but does show up in disc utility. tried formatting it within DU but after a while get the message:

"Unable to write to the last block of the device"

any help appreciated before i go back to the shop with it

Format the card with the camera. If no errors try it again.
Formatting with the Mac, it wont work in the camera(or at least not properly).
Check your cable. Got another cable? Try it.

Try the Lexar USB 3 card readers. I've used these on several Macs and they work fine. Not the cheapest though.

Never used a external card reader. But have noticed that most photographers recommend the Lexar brand more times then others..

Thanks chappers

Do they work with the newer iMacs though?
A bit of online investigation suggests there are issues with newer iMacs and usb3 card readers?
