Pages problems: Blue symbols

Your Mac's Specs
imac 7,1 software version: 10.6.8 processor: Intel Core 2 Duo
Whenever I use Pages for notes, these blue symbols show up for every space, indent, or enter I hit. Any way to disable it or is mine defective?

From what I've found, you can turn this off by going to View > Show Invisibles (it may say Hide Invisibles).
