Tried to post a message in this forum half an hour ago, but it failed to publish (don't know why). Anyhow, I have a serious question about something related to virusses/malware on Mac
I downloaded some audio plugins (AU) from the Piratebay (I know it's a bad thing) and sometimes the DMG installers comes with a Windows keygen executable (.exe) which I run on Crossover which works perfectly.
Yesterday I installed Sophos anti-virus on my Macbook Pro (mid 2012) running the latest version of Mavericks. After scanning over 3 million files the results were in:
www.tinypic.com
The first 3 results are ZIP files that Sophos found in mail attachments in Mac for Mail (where all my Yahoo accounts are set). The last 2 are windows executables (.exe).
My questions:
1. I am aware that key generators (.exe) typically get a red flag with anti-virus programs on Windows, but lets assume it is a virus in this executable file, can it affect my system when using Crossover and running such file?
2. Or do the .exe files have no way of damaging my system because it's sandboxed in Crossover?
