Where in the world is my Desktop link?

iMac 21.5 (2019)
I seem to be missing the link to iMac desktop when I use “Finder”.

It was in the “Places” area, on the left side, when the finder opened, but it has mysteriously disappeared.

How do I get this back?

Go to your home directory and drag the Desktop folder to the sidebar.

Or to to Finder > Preferences > Sidebar and check the box by Desktop. (It may help to take this approach in order to become more familiar with those Preferences.)
